These leaf studies incorporate gold to symbolize the tremendous value of trees. Half of the artworks were created with gold prints of local tree leaves and ink made from black walnut husks. The other artworks are painted over a map that shows Pittsburgh’s current tree canopy in green and recent canopy loss in red. Overlaid on the maps are the silhouettes of tree leaves that frame native flora and fauna that are dependent on trees for habitat and food.
