“Appalatin” entertains guests gathered to support delegation to Venezuela

Last night, at a smoky Monkeywrench (I can’t wait for the comprehensive smoking ban to kick in!), I mingled with cohorts joining me in Venezuela in February, as well as a full-house of our supporters. Donations for our expenses were graciously taken at the door, providing guests with free munchies, a viewing of the incredibly insightful film, “Venezuela Rising,” and a grand finale of Latin American musical entertainment by Appalatin.

The closer this trip gets, and the more I learn about the intricacies of Venezuelan social issues (especially in relation to popular American opinion), the more excited I get. This is going to be an amazing experience that I look forward to sharing with my you via my paintings. I’m sure I will also be involved in other resulting activities to report back to our communities about the interactions and experiences. I’m accumulating a long list of people highly interested in my take-away after this first-hand exposure to a culture we see through a carefully crafted lens. Let me just say, I’m going to Venezuela as a witness, not as a advocate for any school of thought. I’ll form my opinions post my return, when I can offer my stance from a well-informed (and safe) space.

So, again, for those of you who appreciate my work and look forward to the fruits of this trip, I encourage you contribute with a donation by clicking on the corresponding badge in the sidebar. You can also help my in my fund raising efforts by emailing this post to friends, or blogging about on it your own site. And thank you to everyone who has already contributed. I truly appreciate it!
